The Mercedes-Benz Pagoda W113 was produced from 1963-1971 in the models 230SL , 250SL and 280SL/8.
This Mercedes 280SL/8 Pagoda was put through our Classic Department for an 8 month bodywork and cosmetic restoration. The vehicle was mechanically in very good order however the owner was keen for it to be structurally sound and for the bodywork to be put into perfect Concours condition throughout.
As with all our restorations the initial process begins with a comprehensive appraisal of the vehicles current condition.
This enables the owner to have a full picture of where priority may lay in regards to initial and future expenditure in accordance with their expectations, the report is essential as it is the basis for the estimate costing as well as the projected timescale, this in turn allowing the customer to budget themselves accordingly.
As you will see from the selection of photographs the vehicle was totally dismantled and transferred to our Body shop for the restoration to commence.
This particular vehicle benefitted from a lot of new panels due to the amount of corrosion within the vehicle, you will see new rear wings, boot floor, back panel, inner front wings, front wings , nose cone and various other panels all have been fitted – every panel is correct and supplied from the Mercedes-Benz Factory.
After the panelling stage and the signing off of all gaps and fitments the vehicle was passed over to our paint preparation team.
The Pagoda body and panels were correctly preserved and prepared, then put into epoxy primer ready for the wet flatting process before 050 White paint was ready for application.
After the vehicle was painted an advanced five stage wet sand and paint refinement polish process is carried out this ensures the very highest standard of end finish.
With the Pagoda all finished in our Body shop the vehicle was transferred back to our main site for its re-assembly where in its absence every component in accordance with the job brief had already been prepared, maximising time between departments allows the re-fitment to run smoothly as we approach completion.
This Pagoda was entirely re-chromed and completely re-trimmed in correct Mercedes Black Leather with the correct two tone loop carpet including the fitment of a new black soft top.
You will see from the photographs we have detailed the underside of the vehicle within this restoration.
Our final stage is one of the most important, it consists of the final road testing and shakedown of the restoration. Our standard procedure after such works is to road test the vehicle for 3-4 weeks in varying driving styles completing approximately 300-400 miles.
A photograph album and disc is provided for the vehicles history showing the entire time line of before, during and after works.
