This rather special 280SL/8 Pagoda boasts impressive provenance and with recent expenditure through us at John Haynes it presents in very good condition throughout.

U.K. Supplied in 1970, the vehicle was believed to be purchased new by Sir Elton John as a gift for his legendary music producer Mr Gus Dudgeon.

Mr Gus Dudgeon, known for being responsible for producing some of Sir Elton Johns and David Bowie’s greatest hits kept the car in his wife’s name Shiela Dudgeon, as the first registered keeper of the Pagoda they owned the vehicle for 32 years, in 2002 after Gus and Sheila’s tragic passing the vehicle was then purchased by friend, colleague and music Icon Joan Armatrading.

Signed letters in the history file from Joan Armatrading show how fondly the car was thought of and how well maintained it was, both in Mr Gus Dudgeon and Joan Armatrading ownerships.

Joan Armatrading owned the vehicle for a total of 15 years before in 2017 a Mercedes enthusiast from Kent purchased the vehicle.

Keen to ensure the Pagoda was kept in the very highest order the new owner embarked on a sympathetic and detailed restoration of the vehicle with us in 2019.

Works totalling £68,000 which is all detailed in the history file was lavished on the Pagoda elevating its condition to exceptionally good order throughout, this included all new body paint and signature John Haynes factory correct engine detailing as well as many more mechanical items being well sorted.

Today, the vehicle presents in fantastic condition and drives as good as it did when it was new.

With low ownership, low mileage, a lovely history file with the original service booklet, handbook and data card along with recently being put into a well sorted condition, this Pagoda at this price point represents a fine opportunity to acquire a unique and superb example of the ever popular W113.

Viewing and inspection are welcome and available both in our showroom and within our workshop.
